Why so far out?
Bridal makeup artists who work full-time can only take one wedding per day. Most book Saturdays exclusively in peak season. That means a working artist has somewhere between 18 and 24 Saturdays of "prime" weeks per year — and those slots are claimed quickly.
It's not artificial scarcity. It's just math.
The realistic timeline for Fredericton brides
- 12+ months out: The ideal booking window for any peak-season Saturday wedding.
- 9 to 12 months out: Still very workable. Saturdays in late June, August, September may already be taken.
- 6 to 9 months out: Peak-season Saturdays are roughly 60–80% claimed. Off-season dates are wide open.
- 3 to 6 months out: Specific peak Saturdays are likely fully booked. Off-season and weekday weddings are still very possible.
- Under 3 months: Always worth asking. Last-minute openings exist.
Peak season in New Brunswick
The Atlantic Canadian wedding calendar is concentrated. Most outdoor and venue weddings in NB happen between late May and early October, with the heaviest clustering in August and September.
The most heavily-booked weekends:
- Saturdays in late June
- Any Saturday in August
- Saturdays in September up to Thanksgiving weekend
- The Saturday closest to Canada Day, August long weekend, Labour Day
Winter weddings (December–March) and shoulder-season Saturdays are the easiest to book on shorter notice.
What "booking" means
To officially hold a wedding date:
- Submit the booking form on the artist's site
- Sign the contract digitally
- Pay the booking fee (Amanda Phillips Makeup: $100, non-refundable)
Until that fee is paid, the date is open. An informal "I'm interested in August 14th" email is not a booking.
How to vet an artist quickly
- Credentialing. In NB, look for Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick licensing. Instructor-level credential (Amanda holds one) means the artist's work meets a teachable, repeatable standard.
- Portfolio depth. Look for a mix of skin tones, hair colours, and bridal moods.
- Contract clarity. Should spell out booking fee, cancellation, travel, and timeline.
- Response time. A reply within 2 business days during peak is normal.
- Trial honesty. Should tell you whether you need one based on your situation.
If you're booking inside 3 months
- Check availability immediately
- Be flexible on start time if possible
- Consider trimming the bridal party list if the schedule is tight
- Weigh whether to skip the trial
"The most common booking regret I hear is 'I should've reached out the week we set the date.' The least common is 'we booked too early.'"
The short version
Open the booking form now. Five minutes costs nothing if you decide to change course later, and it costs everything if your dream artist is taken by next week.
